Brief Bio
Born and bred in Montreal. After graduating from a local high school, Mitch spent 4 years as an undergrad at Harvard earning a BA in Biology, magna cum laude. He did his undergraduate thesis on termite behaviour. He returned home and attended McGill Medical School; followed eventually with residency in Emergency Medicine (also at McGill). He served as Chief Resident. When he graduated he was a specialist in Emergency Medicine. He passed his qualifying exams and was recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. There are still only a few hundred Royal College certified Emergency Medicine specialists across Canada. In 1999 (the first year that the specialty was recognized in Quebec), he was recognized as a specialist in Emergency Medicine by the Collège des Médecins du Québec. He started his working career at the Montreal General Hospital and St Mary's Hospital but has been at the Royal Victoria since 1985. At the "Vic" he has served as Director of Research for the department as well as its Acting Director. In the meantime, Dr. Mitch has worn many other hats (some of which he's still wearing!). He was a community doc and also worked as a staff health/occupational health physician at the Montreal Children's, the Shriner's and, Mount Sinai. He has been involved with the local research-based pharmaceutical industry and held senior positions in two Montreal-based companies (more about this follows). He does media work (radio, TV and in print, more about this follows too!).
Dr. Mitch was also the Medical Director for the city of Côte Saint-Luc with a responsibility for the medical side of their First Response program (EMS). He's coached hockey for a number of years, still refs and also plays.
